Kickie Chudikova – Precarious life of octopus

New York, 2020

Octopuses are fascinating animals capable of complex and flexible behaviour.
They are able to squeeze into impossibly small cracks and crevices. They have 3 hearts, an excellent sense of touch and can change color to hide and match their surroundings. Their suckers have receptors that enable an octopus to taste what it is touching.
This refers to the remote times we live right now. Locked down in our tiny New York spaces, our rooms become offices, art studios, bedrooms and gyms in one. We have more time to focus and evaluate the things we surround ourselves with and fall in or out of love with them. Colours and shapes shall be stimulating, inspiring and foster an emotional connection.
This installation is part of #kickietotemseries, totemic sculptures that come together at 4pm in different places I travel to. Carefully selected objects are put in vertical balance juxtaposing both our physical and natural worlds.
Made in my room in Brooklyn at 4pm out of 3D printed product prototypes, kitchen utensils, airpods, mini car tire, chanel lipstick, pearl earring and baby octopuses.
