Mary Cinque – Sampson House

London, 19th April 2019
acrylic on canvas

This photograph depicts my acrylic on canvas inspired by the Sampson House in London, a building that was demolished a few months after the completion of this artwork. Self-isolation gave me the opportunity to create many works inspired by the photos that I took in London, where I lived for almost three years before moving back to Italy in November 2019. If I manage not to think about the tragic causes that determine the current situation, self-isolation at the home is actually a boost for my creativity. I can concentrate, take all the time to experiment, make mistakes, staring at things. We are lucky enough to live in a big house, and I often paint on the sunny terrace overlooking the vegetable garden, but for the exhibition “Don’t try it at home” it seemed right to send a photo of the kitchen. This is where I spend most of the day, while my partner cooks. Here there is the largest and most comfortable table and it doesn’t matter if every now and then I have to move all the paints to lay the table: It reminds me of the very close relationship between my art and food. It reminds me of my respect for the culinary art and my passion for fruitful conversations that always happen while we eat and drink.
